About Me

My name is Jerold Stamp, and I began my professional career as a bioenvironmental engineer with the USAF in Sicily, where I met my wife and settled down. After completing my service, I began working as an engineer and consultant in the local economy. Realizing my language skills were in high demand, I integrated translation and interpreting into my business proposition. I opened a studio named Real Bridges and soon built up a team of collaborators who, in addition to translation and interpreting, offered a wide variety of useful services to small and large businesses.

After a short while, companies began asking for help marketing a wide variety of products and services varying from coffee, produce, olive oil, wine, to lava-stone products, software, and tool-cutting equipment. As I gained experience, foreign companies interested in setting up operations in Sicily sought out my services, and I began to provide the liaison and logistic services they were seeking to interact effectively to find and work with the professional consultants they would need such as lawyers, notary publics, engineers, banks, accountants, business associations.

I was happy to help Navy contractors solve logistical problems, procuring hard-to-find tools and equipment in the local economy. My workload has followed the ebb and flow of the economy, and, adapting to the recent pandemic, I began working in remote teams via cloud and online platforms.

Times have changed, technology has changed, the economy has seen both good times and bad, but my mission has never changed.

Why am I good at what I do?

Mastery of Language & Bilingual Expertise

Instead of boring you with my life history, I’ll explain why I have the skillset needed to do what I do. The skillset needed to provide excellent translation, interpreting, and consulting services include:

A mastery of my mother tongue.

In the crib, I’d fall asleep with a book in my hands. I’ve been an unstoppable avid reader my entire life, reading for hours on end, to the point of almost being unsocial. Because of this passion, I readily construct sentences that convey the ideas I wish to convey in the appropriate register and use the best possible terms.

Knowledge of my source language.

Fortunately for my interpreting customers, I have lived and worked in a bilingual environment for three decades. As such, I immediately know what has been said in either language and can convey it with ease.

Specialized Knowledge & Advanced Techniques

I have a very strong background in my areas of specialty.

My Bachelor of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, together with my experience as an engineer, has given me an enormous advantage in technical, scientific, and engineering translation and interpreting compared to other vendors.

My Master’s Degree in Management Science from Troy State University helps me tremendously in financial, business, commercial, and legal translation and interpreting. The ability to see a business project from a manager’s perspective has proven to be decisively useful for my consulting services

Advanced Translation & Interpreting Techniques

Although a person may be versed in foreign languages, that is insufficient for good interpreting and translation. Technique, i.e., knowing how to memorize, speak while listening, manage the flow of a conversation, and paraphrase difficult concepts, require study and practice to master.

Strategic Networking

Networking is key in consulting. A foreign company setting up new operations in Italy will not be familiar with local laws, codes, or practices. The company will need a figure who can gain the trust and cooperation of other professionals, discussing legal issues with lawyers, technical matters with engineers, accounting topics with accountants, and financial matters with banks. They will need a primary liaison to find and negotiate terms with local vendors and do the legwork involved in forming a new company and setting up operations in Italy, in general, and then bring them all together as a team. Truth be told, these projects can be a lot of fun.

Effective Time Management

Being someone who believes in intellectual honesty, I admit to having miscalculated workloads and delivery times in the past. I learned the hard way. Missing deadlines is a Big No-No in the translation industry, and, more often than not, customers are more under extreme time pressure. Taking on more than you can chew can be brutal for a translator’s health and family life.

What I offer

If customers have decided to invest in professional translation, they will be expecting results.
I know errors are not allowed in this business, and I am always willing to go the extra mile to deliver quality.

Interpreting

Remote | Consecutive | Simultaneous

As a seasoned interpreter, I offer comprehensive services across various contexts, including medical, legal, and high-profile international events. My journey into interpreting began when my medical-translation clients requested my interpreting expertise. I undertook formal training, earned certification, and adapted my office setup to meet the rigorous demands of medical interpreting. This role requires instant recall of medical terminology and the ability to provide accurate interpretations on the spot, a challenge I embraced and enjoy.

My interpreting skills extend beyond medical settings. For instance, during the OSCE monitoring of the G-7 Summit in Taormina, Sicily, I was tasked with translating documents and interpreting for high-stakes meetings involving assembly organizers, local police, and security forces. This involved understanding complex security protocols and translating them accurately in real-time. I used techniques like the method of loci to ensure I conveyed detailed information effectively, even during lengthy and complex briefings.

Whether handling sensitive medical interpretations or facilitating communication at major international events, my interpreting services are characterized by a deep understanding of context, precise language skills, and the ability to perform under pressure. My commitment to clear, effective communication ensures that every interpretation is delivered with accuracy and professionalism.

Translation & Localization

Translation | Editing | Proofreading | Machine Translation Post-Editing

With a robust academic background and a commitment to excellence, I excel in Italian-to-English translation and localization. My experience spans diverse fields, including medical, legal, financial, and technical sectors. I pride myself on delivering flawless translations, understanding that accuracy and attention to detail are paramount in this profession.

Noteworthy projects include translating and localizing complex documents such as clinical records, chemical plant safety programs, and financial reports for major institutions like Banca Fideuram. I successfully managed large-scale translation tasks, including the localization of over 127,000 words for BM Sistemi Software’s Sprinkler-design software and translating significant patents like the Method and Computer System for GSM Access Network.

My work often involves creating extensive glossaries and using advanced Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) tools, such as Déjà Vu X Workgroup and SDL Trados, to ensure consistent terminology and high-quality output. I am dedicated to meeting tight deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of precision and clarity. My approach to translation and localization is driven by a passion for achieving excellence and a deep understanding of the specialized subjects I handle.

Audiovisual Translation

Captioning | Time-Coding | Subtitle Translation | Quality Assurance

When the COVID pandemic struck, local medical practitioners, knowing that I was a medical translator, asked me to translate documents and audiovisual documentaries entailing immunology, vaccinology, virology, and specifically the dynamics of the pandemic and the benefits of sterilizing vaccines as compared to leaky vaccines. It was very technical work and entailed a great deal of research.

This being a direct customer, I purchased a suite of special-purpose software to manage the audiovisual translation. I studied the process, exported the source video soundtrack from the video file, and then created a rough draft of the subtitle file using voice-to-text software and checked for errors applying BBC audiovisual guidelines (the original video had not been subtitled). Next, I translated the .srt using special-purpose CAT software, respecting the timecodes. I recorded the translated subtitles and synced the resulting soundtrack with the original video. I reviewed for quality, fixed recording problematic tracks, and delivered a video with multi-language subtitles.

I have been providing the service professionally to companies ever since.

If you have a marketing video or company presentation on your web pages, or perhaps a company safety-training video you would like to present in a foreign language, please consider my services.

Business Consulting

Local Liaison & Consulting | Market Research | Lead Generation | Fact-Finding | Logistical Assistance | Resource

Through my company, Real Bridges, I offer comprehensive business consulting services, leveraging my extensive background in engineering, management, and translation. For instance, I provided consulting services to the Austrian Group Solar Energy Development GmbH in 2009, assisting with their solar power plant project in Italy. My work included domiciliation services, legal and accounting consultations, land-search and lease negotiations, business consulting, and coordinating with engineering firms. I also managed the translation of crucial technical documents and legal agreements for the project.

My consulting expertise covers various sectors such as engineering, environmental science, and business management. I apply my knowledge and experience to deliver customized solutions that address each project’s specific needs, ensuring smooth and effective business operations.

If you are interested in opening a business in Italy and need someone to help you with the legwork, please don’t hesitate to call me to explore the opportunities.

I have worked with Jerry in the past and can warmly endorse him for the reliable, hard-working and well connected person he is. Jerry is a perfectionist, striving hard to deliver accurate translations on time and clearly has a passion for his job. He is a skilled entrepreneur, having had to establish a business which he dedicated a lot of time and effort into growing. Moreover, he is a good manager and knows how to coordinate big and small projects alike. He has had to learn a lot in order to develop his business and he has seriously built upon his resources.

On a personal level, I have always found him to be a friendly, trustworthy personality and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

You are the best Italian < > English translator I have ever worked with.

I’ve been in the business quite a long time and the Italian/English pair has, for a reason I don’t understand, always been a problem. In some cases, although I have never had an Italian lesson my life, my re-translations or proofreading of translations done by individuals who claimed quite impressive credentials were such vast improvements that I had to bite my cheek when I was signing the check. For many years I used a French/German to English translator for Italian to English even though he, like me, had never had a lesson in Italian.

In any case, I have enjoyed working with and I hope I can send you some more substantial work.
